Yesterday I went to the Hip-Hop Theater Festival premiere of Lemon. This compelling doc is the story of noted poet Lemon Andersen and chronicles his life after a brief taste of success after being featured on Russell Simmons' Def Poetry Jam followed by the DPJ Broadway show. Lemon, a Puertorican artist had the kind of childhood you hear about in third world countries but he was right here in NYC. Quite sad that it's even possible for children in the "land of plenty" to grow up in unimaginable conditions.
After three stints in jail Lemon discovered his artistic self and to say the road to the top wasn't easy would be an understatement. I left the flick feeling inspired by his resilience and his hustle. If you're in NYC and have a chance to go check it out, I highly recommend it!
I've long been a fan of a fab hat but this season you'll be seeing me A LOT more in hats. This is the hat featured in my H+M haul video, cute right? Seemed to have been a big hit. I got a ton of compliments from folks at the after party...so that was nice.
I find that when going out at night it's really easy to just go to the old faithful black pants or even blue jeans. Gray jeans are a great way to break up the black and are also very cool. Depending on how you pair them they can also be very chic.
Here's what I'm wearing:
Hat - H+M
Jacket - Torrid
Tank - LYS for Kmart
Jeans - Avenue
Bag - Carolina Herrera
Boots - BlowFish
Necklace - Forever 21
Bracelets - Avenue and Tiffany
Rings - Dad's old wedding band that no longer fits him and a vintage band from NYC street fair
